(2017) Poly Fest Learning Story.

Image
Polyfest Learning Story. On the  10th of August at Hosanna Church, Corinna School participated in an event known as Polyfest. Polyfest is an NZ wide event that many schools, groups (etc) are involved in. It’s a way for children and adults to communicate a story about their culture through song and dance. There were about 5 groups that performed at Polyfest. It consisted of Samoa, Tuvalu/Tokelau, Cook Island, Maori and Kapa Haka. On that day I contributed in the Senior Samoan group. I chose to perform for that group even though the teachers gave us a choice. My culture is Samoan and I’m proud to represent my culture. My polyfest performance was stressful but fun. I am very proud of myself because my goals for polyfest were to smile, have fun, enjoy and to get the actions perfect and superb. Performing in the senior Samoan group that I participated in the k.c skills I used were relating to others, managing self and participating and contributing ... I followed and...

Legacy Statement.

What do you want to be known for? I want to be known for performing in front of the whole school and sharing my amazing talents. I will never forget when I got a Principal's Award, I was really proud of myself because I worked really hard to earn it. I am good at self-managing because I behave and listen to the teacher.  This makes me a successful learner because I can reflect on my learning and talk about what I am good at, and what I need to work on. The learning I like to do is writing because it’s a fun way to express my feelings and it’s a good way to talk about different topics. I am good at music e.g Guitar, Piano and Violin.  I show my confidence in music because I am a music person. My favourite performance was when we performed for polyfest and a lot of people were there. I always do my best and have fun when I perform.   This year I have also participated in Garden Club, Netball, Sports Awards and Poly Club. Participating in these things made me...

Athletic Learning Story.

It’s not about being the best, it’s about improving your personal best and not giving up. Beating my personal best is a goal I have achieved this year, even if I struggle, I never give up. The first thing we did was rest/play. While we were resting/playing we watched others to see what they did to be good. We also cheered people on and encouraged them to keep on trying. Encouraging was something I did all day. I was a brilliant cheerleader. I enjoyed encouraging my peers so that it would motivate them to achieve their personal best. In a way it made me feel as though I was responsible for a little bit of my peers accomplishments and happiness. Only a little bit. Then we moved on to discus. I think I tried my best to get silver even though my goal was to get gold but at least I tried. I had to learn how to hold a discus before I threw it and to throw it in the right direction. I think I improved on my real throw because I took the teacher’s advice. The teacher's advice was to...

(2017) Skipping Learning Story.

Skipping Learning Story During the past few weeks, in P.E, our main topic was skipping. On youtube, we watched different skipping routines. This helped us to extend our knowledge in skipping and give us ideas. Before creating our skipping routines, we had to get into groups of 2, 3 or 4. In those groups, we had a discussion about what skipping skills we already knew, how we should do it, the timing of our jumps (etc). The K.C skills I used was Relating to others (e.g) showing respect with the way I talk and act. I also participated in different routines and shared my thinking/opinions with my group.

(2017) My Science experience.

Science Learning Story Before we went to the LIAB (Lab in a box), we got the choice of choosing different workshops we wanted to book into. The workshops consisted dry ice, creating gloop, making rockets, pests and trapping and mini beasts. I participated in 1 group which was learning about dry ice. Our science instructor was a female science expert named Sue. She explained to us different chemicals there were, what was dangerous (etc). Since science isn’t my thing. I was hopeless. But I got some help from my peers and mentor. During all these sessions I used the K.C. skills as a guideline. The K.C. skill I reckon I used the most was relating to others because I helped people who needed support. The K.C skill relating well to others helped me stay focus, listen and show respect to both Sue and classmates. The K.C. skill I need to work on more is Participating and Contributing. To do this I will take more risks in science, volunteer when the teacher/tutor asks for help (etc...

Monkey Symphony Dialogue

King Kong: Boo!, Little Monkey: You're not scary fat. Get away I have to practice. I have my first lesson with a professional piano teacher King Kong: That sounded awful and terribly disturbing for my ears. Little monkey: Dry! Give me some space and get away dummy King Kong: Can I have a try? Little Monkey: Nah! King Kong: Fine then Little Monkey: It’s hot in here. When I come in every time it feels like an oven. King Kong: I know. Hey! sweat is magic. Cover yourself in it daily to grant your wishes. Little Monkey: When I look outside it’s like the scorching sun boiling my eyes out. King Kong: Laters Little Monkey: Finally peace and quiet, it’s like i’m in a room with nothing but a piano. Think fast King Kong: Yes I caught the broom for the first time. Shame you can’t trick me anymore. Oi! Hurry up and start to clean up Little monkey: Hey do you know that old lady? Her face looks like an ugly gorilla. King Kong: Quick get your bottom off that chair young...

Math's Leaning Story.

In math's our problem was about having a competition to see who could hop, skip and jump the farthest. Philomena and June were involved. In the first go, Philomena hopped 1.01m, skipped 0.97m and jumped 1.57m. June hopped 0.89m, skipped 1.11m and jumped 1.5m. Philomena reckons she’ll win because she is the fastest and can get the best run up, but June reckons it will be her because her legs are longer. The question was: Which of them is right and by how much did they win? First, my group added all of Philomena’s events together because we wanted to know the total. First, we did: 1.01m +0.97m +1.57m = 3.55m. 3.55m is the total of Philomena’s events altogether or in other words, it is the results. Next, we were trying to find out June’s results. First, we did the same as what we did before. So just a reminder if you have forgotten what we did before we added all of June’s events together because we wanted to know the total. So next we did: 0.89m +1.11m +1.5m= ...

Art learning story.

Image
Cubism Art For the past few weeks Ngati Aroha (Which is us) & Ngati Awhina has been concentrating on Cubism art. We have been researching and we discovered that the creator of cubism art is a Spanish Painter named Pablo Picasso. Pablo and another artist named George Braque worked together to paint this painting of art:     Aroha & Awhina went on a trip to the Pataka Exhibition on the 28th of February to learn more about Cubism Art to be able to use some ideas and advice when we’re creating our own Cubism Art. Pataka Trip At the pataka exhibition we had to take a risk of drawing our own piece of art. We all had 4 pieces of paper on top of 1 carbon paper that was on top of another sheet of paper so it would transfer onto that one. Each table had objects in the middle, we also learnt that it was called a Still Life, we drew the objects on our paper. Each time we had finished 1 piece of paper we had to rotate the platform of objects until we got up to f...

Maths Learning Story.

Maths learning story. A large group of ladies are performing a siva at Pina’s church to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary.  Pina has been asked to decorate the puletasi they will wear on the day. It takes 4/7 of a metre of material to decorate one puletasi. How many metres of material will Pina need to decorate 56 puletasi? How many for 147 puletasi? For this problem we are trying to find out ‘how many metres of material will Pina need to decorate 56 puletasi?’. 1st we did 100cm divided by 7= 14 cm, so 1/7 = 14cm & 2mm. Next we did 14cm x 4= 56 cm. After that we did 4 x 2mm= 8mm, last we did 56cm + 8mm= 56cm 8mm. In maths I included some success criteria like managing self and like asking questions when I don’t understand or I need help with something.

Creek Fest.

Standing in the middle of nowhere wondering where to go. Walking around everywhere as if i’m lost in the forest. Feeling the scorching sun as if the dentist is checking my teeth with the bright light. Seeing kids moaning for food. People rushing to get food as if it was the last thing they could eat. Standing in a long line as if I was stuck in traffic. Standing in the front row being asked to go up the stage and to sing with stan walker feeling like there’s butterflies in my stomach. Hearing the music surrounding me while standing with stan walker. Coming off the stage seeing people fighting for their lives to meet stan walker. Standing waiting for my order and hearing the sizzling sound of the yumminess coming. Tasting the crunchiness and the sweetness of panikeke mixed with pineapple. Sitting down with a full tummy ache listening to the musical songs that has been made and hearing famous singers singing upon their voices as if I was singing. Everybody going with...

P.E Learning Story.

P.E Learning Story. In P.E we have been learning how to help out our team, our teammates and ourselves. Our goals were to work together as a team by giving positive encouragements and to think of a helpful strategy to share it with our group. Our skills were assessed in 2 activities (Games). One of the games we played was dodgeball. In dodgeball I noticed that everyone kept getting out. We had to figure out what can we do to be able to win?. Our answer was to catch the ball to get people out several of times. The 1st game we played was dodgeball. When we were playing dodgeball I was good at coming up with strategies and sharing them with my team. I was also good at encouraging my teammates by saying “Try and catch the ball, you can do it”. But when I was playing I had to improve my skills by catching the ball so my teammates can come back in with me. The 2nd activity was T-ball. In T-ball I got some support from a teammate before I was going to hit the ball they were whis...
