Reading Learning Story.

For reading we have been reading different stories. Most of our stories that we have been reading were based on myths and legends from different cultures. In reading me and my group have been reading this story called “Tarakura of the Rangitaiki Plains” by Bernadine Ngaheu. It was about a great Chief and great Warrior, his name was Iratumoana. There was also another character & this character was not a human, he was Tarakura, the monstrous taniwha who plagued the people of Ngati Awa. This book was interesting because there was a sentence that hooked me in Here is the sentence I was talking about: “This conflict between chief and taniwha would determine the future of the Ngati Awa people”. It hooked me in because.. it has interesting words- for example: Conflict & Determine. It also hooked me in because when I read it the author made me feels like I am part of the story. Special Taonga.

My Brother. Do you have someone special in your life? Well I do I want to talk to you about a Taonga: A Taonga is something or someone special to you. My Taonga is my big brother because we loved him & he communicates with us very well. My special thing to me is my older brother Albert Alapati because when he passed away me & my family felt emotional for him, that's why he’s a really special person to me. My brother was Tall. The only sport he loved to play with my other older brother was Rugby he was strong playing rugby. When it was time for the funeral, First my three brother had to lift it with with some of my cousins. Then our pastor gave the opportunity to people to talk about my brother for example a speech. The first person to go up was my dad. then, second was my Grandma. Later it was my Mum’s turn, she sang a Samoan song. Then it was my cousins and me & my brothers turn and we also sang a song. (2017) My Science experience.

Science Learning Story Before we went to the LIAB (Lab in a box), we got the choice of choosing different workshops we wanted to book into. The workshops consisted dry ice, creating gloop, making rockets, pests and trapping and mini beasts. I participated in 1 group which was learning about dry ice. Our science instructor was a female science expert named Sue. She explained to us different chemicals there were, what was dangerous (etc). Since science isn’t my thing. I was hopeless. But I got some help from my peers and mentor. During all these sessions I used the K.C. skills as a guideline. The K.C. skill I reckon I used the most was relating to others because I helped people who needed support. The K.C skill relating well to others helped me stay focus, listen and show respect to both Sue and classmates. The K.C. skill I need to work on more is Participating and Contributing. To do this I will take more risks in science, volunteer when the teacher/tutor asks for help (etc...
